Overview Hampton is a suburb in Melbourne known as a residential area where wealthy, influential people live. The suburb is located between Sandringham and Brighton and is away to the southeastern portion of Melbourne's central business district by 14 kilometres. Based on the 2016 census, Hampton has a population of 18,082.
Living in Hampton One of Hampton's major attractions is its shopping area on Hampton Street. Many local landmarks, including the beach, were initially called Hampton after the market landscaper Dyas Hampton, but affluent property owners later preferred Hampton.
