History of Hendra Hendra came from the railway station name believed to be given by Queensland Railway Commissioner Francis Curnow. Hendra means an ancient hamlet or town and was originally a farming district, and the popular crops were grapes, pineapples, and citrus fruits. It was an expansion of the Nundah settlement, and during 1870, the Brisbane Courier advertised the ‘Grand drawing and distribution of land prizes’. With such land allotments, the suburb started developing and soon became a preferred residential location.
