History of Jam Jerrup There is little information about the history of Jam Jerrup. However, for Bass Coast Shire, where the town is located, the Bunurong Aboriginal people are recognised as the land's traditional owners. The region was named after the explorer George Bass.
As for Jam Jerrup, some parts of the town began to collapse into the Western Port from the late 1980s. A coastal road in the suburb also eroded, and what's left is now known as the Jam Jerrup cliff walk. The Victorian Government, along with the Bass Coast Shire Council, is heading protection works program to combat the erosion at Jam Jerrup.
