Overview Kalgan is a small town located in the Great Southern region of Western Australia. It is located 388 km southeast of Perth and 17 km northeast of Albany. This town belongs to the local government area of the city of Albany. As of the 2016 census, Kalgan has a population of 806. It has a total land area of 245 square kilometres.

History of Kalgan The town of Kalgan was established in 1912 when the land development in the area began. In 1839, it was called Wyndham, but there was no subdivision development here. It was initially planned as the site of a farming community, but this never came to fruition. Since another town named Wyndham was already established in the Kimberley region, it was eventually renamed Kalgan (the Aboriginal name of the river that runs through the suburb).
