History of Kewarra Beach Kewarra Beach sits in the traditional Aboriginal country of Djabugay (Tjapukai). The suburb got its name from the Aboriginal word "kewarra", which means "at the foot of the rainbow."
The area of Kewarra Beach was initially planted with sugarcane. In the 1970s and 1990s, housing developments were built in the northern and southern portions of the highway. The Paradise Palm, a golf course, was built in the western part of the highway.
