During the first years of the European settlement, the area became known as Cudgen Headland until a property developer subdivided the land in 1915 and called the property “Kingscliff Estate”. It is believed that the name Kingscliff could be related to a coastal suburb of Brighton, England or is a variation of Queenscliff, a town in Victoria.
