History of Kingscliff The town was first named Sutherland Point in honour of the Duke of Sutherland. During the first years of the European settlement, the area became known as Cudgen Headland until a property developer subdivided the land in 1915 and called the property “Kingscliff Estate”. It is believed that the name Kingscliff could be related to a coastal suburb of Brighton, England or is a variation of Queenscliff, a town in Victoria.
