There are two primary schools and one secondary college in the area. Koo Wee Rup is a small town with a great community feel and is preferred by families with kids. The name of the town is believed to be originated from Aboriginal peoples' language. They used to speak a language known as Ku-wirup, which means 'plenty of blackfish' or 'blackfish swimming'.
