History of Kooralbyn Kooralbyn used to be called the Kooralbyn Valley, and many people still refer to the town as the Valley. Kooralbyn derived its name from the Aboriginal Yugambeh word "kooralbyn", which means "copperhead snake " or the copper or brown snake.
The first European settlers arrived in the area in the 1930s when the timber millers from the south were after the quality hardwoods found on the lower valleys.
In the 1940s, pastoralists, who were free settlers, migrated to the area making Kooralbyn one of the most important pastoral estates in the region. They used the land primarily used for cattle grazing.
