History of Koroit Koroit is named after the people of Koroit Gundidj, who populated this area before the European Colonisation. The descendants of the Koroit Gundidj people retain special connections with this land as it used to be a prosperous food source for these people before the British colonisation. 1837 marks the arrival of the first European settler in the area. The 1840s and 1850s witnessed numerous Irish immigrants making it their home.
