History of Lawnton The name Lawnton arise from Stephen Lawn, one of the earliest property owners in the area. He obtained land along Queensland Rail and called the expanses Lawton. But before its current name, the suburb was called North Pine. Moreover, the eastern portion of the Gympie Road was once called Wyllie. It was named after Alexander James Wyllie. The section was later incorporated within the Lawnton suburb in 1989. An early development in the community was the St. Thomas Anglican church, which was built in 1888.
