Overview Lithgow is a town in the Central Tablelands of New South Wales, Australia. It is located in a mountain valley, Lithgow’s Valley, that John Oxley named in honour of William Lithgow. The suburb is situated on the western edge of the sandstone country of the Blue Mountains.
Living in Lithgow Lithgow has several heritage-listed sites and features a subtropical highland climate. As the town shares boundaries with many national parks, it has many tourist attractions. Some of the most popular ones include the Zig Zag Railway, Newnes, Glen Davis, and Glow Worm Tunnel. History of Lithgow During 1866 and 1869, The Great Zig Zag railway was constructed to make the Blue Mountains' mountainous terrain. In 1869, the line was opened and covered by more modern engineering methods in 1910. The contemporary construction included ten tunnels and some parts of the Zig Zag. In 1928, the Lithgow Greyhound Racing Club was established, and it hosts race meetings on Saturday.
