Overview Lorne is a coastal town situated in the Surf Coast Shire of Victoria. This scenic area is split into two as the Deans Marsh-Lorne Road intersects with the Great Ocean Road at the east. History of Lorne Before the settlement of the British explorers, Lorne was already a part of the traditional community of the Gadubanud clan. In 1846, William Lindsay was the first European to settle in the area. Three years later, the first telegraph reached the town. Lorne earned its name from the Marquess of Lorne in Scotland.
