Overview Mackenzie is a rural and residential suburb in the City of Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. It is located approximately 13 km southeast of central Brisbane. Some of the areas in this suburb are still covered by undeveloped bushland. In the 2016 census, Mackenzie had a population of 1,094 people.
Living in Mackenzie Mackenzie is one of Brisbane's leafiest and green suburbs and is surrounded by bush and acreage. Mount Petrie is the most prominent place in the suburb. It has several residential estates with hundreds of new houses. However, there are no large or small shopping centres in the area as the development is still going on. There are some beautiful parks around the area, and recently fitness stations have been added to them. The suburb is home to several churches, and Gateway Baptist Church also has a campus. The suburb is just a few kilometres from Brisbane's CBD, and it takes only 20 to 25 minutes to drive to the city.
History of Mackenzie Mackenzie was named after a sugar planter on the Bulimba Creek, Colonel. W. Mackenzie. It was a rural area divided between Rochedale and Belmont before being named. In 1955, Mount Petrie State School opened, and in 1971, Mount Gravatt Special School was established. In September 2012, the two schools were amalgamated into Mackenzie State Primary and Special School.
