History of Macksville Macksville was named after the Star Hotel, erected in 1885 by Angus Mackay and Hugh McNally. Before changing its name to Macksville, the community was known as 'Macks Village.' On August 1, 1868, the Nambucca Post Office opened, and in 1889, it was renamed 'Macksville.
