Overview Margate is a small town in the seaside on the channel highway between North West Bay and Snug Tiers, 7 kilometres south of Kingston in Tasmania, Australia. It is mainly in the Kingsborough council area with 4% in Huon valley council LGA.

History of Margate The original Margate suburb was on beach road as the coal-burning steamers brought all supplies by sea. The post office of Margate opened on 1 July 1866, and in the year 1869, the primary school opened. From 1906 – 1922, the sandfly colliery Tramway ran from Margate Wharf to the coal mine at Kaoota. The length of the jetty was 80 meters and can service ships that draw 7 meters. In the year 2016, it celebrated 150 years of being a gazette.
