History of Metung Metung was initially inhabited by the Aboriginal Gunai or Kurnai people, and the evidence is still present on rocks alongside the boardwalk in the Metung Marina. It is believed that the stones found on these rocks were once greedy men who were punished for their mistakes. There were three rocks related to the legend, but one of them was destroyed during road works. The remaining ones are protected as Legend Rock.
