Mortlake is located 234 km west of Melbourne and 50 km northeast of Warnambool.

This historic settlement is home to a rich collection of landmark bluestone buildings. It lies in the area of a volcanic plain that was used for pastoral and agricultural purposes. It is also widely known for the abundance of olivine crystals. The town is also home to Clarke’s Pies, one of the major distributors of pies in Victoria.
History of Mortlake Before the European settlers arrived in the area, it was inhabited by the Aboriginal people, specifically the tribe of Djab wurrung and Kirrae. These people used stones to build homes and formed a village. It was first surveyed in the 1830s, but the influx of settlers in the area took place during the Victorian gold rush in the 1850s.
