Overview Mount Colah is an outer suburb in Northern Sydney in New South Wales. It is part of the Hornsby Shire local government area with an approximate distance of 29 km from Sydney. It is more commonly referred to as “Far Northern” because of its geographic location. It varies in elevation, with some parts at 68 metres and the others at 206 metres above sea level. Mount Colah is bound by the Hornsby Heights to the north and west, Asquith to the south, and North Wahroonga to the southeast.

Living in Mount Colah Mount Colah is one of the most underrated suburbs in Sydney. It is one of Sydney’s most northern suburbs and where the “Welcome to Sydney” sign can be found. In terms of elevation, it is the second-highest suburb in Sydney. It is a leafy suburb accessible via major thoroughfares and is serviced by the Mount Colah railway station. The commercial areas are concentrated close to the Pacific Highway.

History of Mount Colah Colah was the first name of this suburb after naturalist George Caley mistakenly used to word to describe a koala. In 1906, the name was changed to Mount Colah. In 2010, it was voted as “Australia’s Best Suburb” via an online poll.
