History of Nagambie The Nagambie Region falls within the traditional lands of the Taungurung people. These people are believed to be the first people of this suburbs mountains, valleys, and rivers. They lived close-knit with nature and kept moving through their country according to the natural cycles. They used to move to the tributaries of the Goulburn River in winter/spring and cooler mountain areas during summers/autumn. When European settlement began in the area, a river crossing had been developed on the Goulburn River. The route followed to make this crossing was the same that explorer Thomas Mitchell used. The Post Office opened in 1870, and the Nagambie railway station was established in 1880.
