Living in Neerim South Neerim South is the largest of five Neerim settlements. It offers a wide range of eateries such as supermarkets, pharmacies, Neerim South Hotel, the Neerim South Recreational Reserve and more. One of the popular tourist destinations, the Tarago Reservoir Park, is also located in the suburb. This peaceful suburb has been inviting people from all over the world. History of Neerim South It is said that Neerim South was a densely forested area where gold prospectors arrived in the early 1870s. By the 1880s, there were small settlements at Neerim South. In 1883, many small shops and a post office was opened. Moreover, in 1888, a courthouse and police station were also opened. On 18 Match 1892, the town was linked to the Victorian Railways network, and the main branch was opened from the main Gippsland line at Warragul. Later on, in 1919, it was connected to Noorjee, and in 1958, it was closed.
