Overview Newport, a suburb in Northern Sydney in New South Wales, is located on Sydney's Northern Beaches. It is under the governance of the Northern Beaches Council and falls under the Northern Beaches region. Newport is 31 kilometres north of the central business district of Sydney. Its nearby suburbs are Bayview, Bilgola, Mona Vale and Avalon.

In the 2016 census, Newport had a population of 9303 people.

Living in Newport Newport offers excellent walks, fantastic beaches, and tranquillity to its residents and visitors. It is a great neighbourhood that captures the best of Sydney and the Australian lifestyle. The Newport SurfLife Saving Club patrols its ocean beach.

Newport has several restaurants, cafes and the Newport Arms Hotel is along the coast of Pittwater.

Newport has the Pittwater Presbyterian Church, Newport Anglican Church, and the Link Church. The suburb also has the Newport Public Primary School.

History of Newport Newport got its name because it is a "new port" for streamers that carried cargo such as firewood and local shells. The streamers also carried passengers.

Many of the earliest European settlers in Newport were into farming. The suburb was called Newport in 1880. George Pile and Charles Jeanneret built the Newport Hotel and a wharf. He subdivided the land and sold it. Pile and Jeanneret secured the mail contract, and all shipments for Newport were unloaded at the wharf. Jeanneret promoted Newport by encouraging day trips to the suburb. Newport could be accessed from Sydney by streamer and from Manly by coach.
