History of Numurkah It is thought that "numurkah" is a Yorta-Yorta Aboriginal word that means "war shield." The Yorta Yorta people occupied Numurkah before the European settlement. The locality of Numukah was surveyed in 1875 and founded in 1868. The railway station in Numurkah on the Goulburn Valley railway stopped operations in 1881.
