Under the leadership of Gerald de Windsor, who married the famous Welsh Princess Nest, Pembroke has become a power centre. Normandy attackers invaded South Pembrokeshire and established its independent settlement of England and the Fleming people, which has become famous as "Little England Beyond Wales". The palace stayed steadfast in such terrible times, and with its shadow developed the settlement of Pembroke, presided over with the formidable Nobles of Pembroke, the strongest of which would be William Marshal, of Magna Carta renown, and ascended into becoming the Protector of England.
