The town is located 134 km from Perth and 33 km from Waroona. It belongs to the local government area of the Shire of Waroona and has a population of 218 (2016).

History of Preston Beach In 1829, two explorers stumbled upon the land on the coastline between Mandurah and Bunbury. Over the years, the area went through several periods of development, but the Preston Beach Estate did not come to be until 1959. It was incorporated along with the Lakeside Estate to form what is now known as Yalgorup. The town of Preston Beach was gazetted in 1975, but the name Preston Beach did not become official until 1989.
