Overview Pyrmont is an inner-city suburb of Sydney located 2 kilometres southwest of the Sydney Central Business District. It was the most densely populated suburb of Australia as of 2011, and in the 2016 census, there were 12813 people in the suburb. It is the former home to Seven West Media and 2GB.

History of Pyrmont Pyrmont was named for a natural spring in Bad Pyrmont as the area contained a lot of mineral spring of cold water bubbling out of a rock. In 1795, Thomas Jones was granted 55 acres of land on the peninsula, and later it was sold to Obadiah Ikin in 1796. The land was again sold in 1799 to Captain John Macarthur. The suburb was the site of quarries from an early stage as it was famous for the quality of the sandstone. The suburb was once a vital component of the state’s industrial waterfront with many shipbuilding yards, factories, and wool stores.
