Overview Queenscliff is a small town on the Bellarine Peninsula in Southern Victoria, Australia. The suburb is located between Port Philip, Swan Bay, and Point Lonsdale and is just 30 kilometres from Geelong and well connected to local areas. According to the 2016 census, Queenscliff had a population of 1,315.
Living in Queenscliff Queenscliff is a popular seaside resort known for its heritage and tourist industry from the Victorian era. Though the suburb is small, it has lots to do, including heritage sites, museums, festivals, sport, and recreational facilities. It is home to the ‘blues train’, featuring live music on Saturday nights between October and May. History of Queenscliff Queenscliff was inhabited by the Bengalat Bulag clan of the Wautharong tribe. These people were members of the Kulin nation. In 1802, two European explorers, Captain Mathew Flinders and Lieutenant John Murray arrived in the area. William Buckley, a convict escapee, is believed to be the first European settler who lived in a cave with Aboriginal people between 1803 and 1835. The wave where he used to live is now the lighthouse. However, permanent settlement began with the arrival of squatters in 1836. On May 1, 1853, the Post Office opened in the area that was named Queenscliff in 1854.
