History of Redcliffe Redcliffe was initially inhabited by the Ningy Ningy people, an indigenous clan before the Europeans started settling in the area. Redcliffe was named by Matthew Flinders, an explorer who mentioned ‘Redcliffe Point’ in his east coast exploration in 1799. In 1824, the town became the first colony of Queensland, but it was discarded for Brisbane shortly after.
