History of Rye The town of Rye was granted its official proclamation in February 1861. A part of the village was within the borders of Wannaeue parish, but it was mainly a part of the Nepean parish. W.A. Blair was the owner of most of the suburban lands in Rye, which he got from purchasing the properties and receiving grants. He planned to form a monopoly in the area, but John Cain countered him. The dispute between the lands of Rye ended later on, with more families occupying the area.
