History of Sebastopol The Wathaurong Indigenous Australians were its first inhabitants, and Henry Anderson emerged as its first settler. It was previously known as Bonshaw and was named by Jock Winter, and it witnesses the opening of its post office on the 5th of October 1857. On the 19th of March 1869, the Sebastopol Townhall opened, and on the 14th of August 1913, it was time for the tramway to Ballarat to start and make it a part of Ballarat's urban area.
