History of Slade Point Slade Point was discovered by the British. The first British people visited the area in June 1862 only because they had difficulty entering the Pioneer River. The exciting thing is that the Aboriginal population of that time captured one of the ship's passengers, and the crew members were forced to dock and look for the passenger. The crew members were armed, and a search party was formed. Unfortunately, they could not locate the passenger and even with a bigger party to search for the passenger, they could not find him. Back then, they named the town Amhurst, but it was eventually renamed Slade Point.
