History of Springfield Springfield was established in the 1800s by William Pitt Faithfull. He worked as a land overseer of his aunt's property, who later granted him 518 hectares of land on Goulburn Plains. It was bushy and had a reliable water source at the time, which was Faithfull's top consideration in choosing a land. Faithfull claimed the land in June 1828, and it emerged as the town of Springfield a decade later.
