History of Tanilba Bay Lieutenant William Caswell was the first settler in the area, receiving 50 acres of property at Tanilba in 1831 as a reward for his military service in the Royal Navy. Tanilba Estate was purchased in 1920 by Henry F. Halloran, a surveyor, real estate agent, and property developer. He oversaw the construction of various remarkable structures in native stone in Tanilba Bay's streets and parks.
