Overview Tanilba Bay is a small suburb in the Hunter Region of New South Wales, within Port Stephens's local government area. It was reported to have a total population of 6,685 settlers based on the 2016 census data. The iconic heritage site in the suburb is Tanilba House, built in 1837.

History of Tanilba Bay Lieutenant William Caswell was the first settler in the area, receiving 50 acres of property at Tanilba in 1831 as a reward for his military service in the Royal Navy. Tanilba Estate was purchased in 1920 by Henry F. Halloran, a surveyor, real estate agent, and property developer. He oversaw the construction of various remarkable structures in native stone in Tanilba Bay's streets and parks.
