Overview Tecoma is a suburb of Melbourne, located 35 kilometres away from the city’s central business district. The suburb is within the local government of the Shire of Yarra Ranges. It has a population of 2,082 based on the 2016 census.

History of Tecoma Tecoma was initially part of Upper Ferntree Gully and was known as Upwey or Lower Belgrave. The suburb’s name only arose in 1925, when the residents called for the Victorian Railways to build a railway station on Lower Belgrave, eventually named Tecoma. The suburb’s name was derived from a shrub that grew in the area.
