Overview The Gap is a northwestern suburb of the city of Brisbane. It has a population of about 16700 people, according to the 2016 census. It is a residential suburb that lies about 10 km northwest of Brisbane’s central business district. It gets its name from its position in the valley between Enoggera Hill and Mount Coot-tha. The Gap is bordered by Upper Kedron, Enoggera Reservoir, Brookfield, Mount Coot-tha, Keperra, Enoggera, Ashgrove, and Bardon.

Living in The Gap While there are many sports facilities and clubs here like, golf, soccer, athletics, swimming, and tennis, there are several forest reserves and parks. In addition, an ambulance station, medical facilities, a police station, a fire brigade, and a small shopping village make The Gap entirely self-sufficient. There are several schools and buildings of worship as well.

History of The Gap The Turrbal people were the original inhabitants of this area. Although there were dense forests here, timber felling became the first industry once Europeans settled here. Then farming and animal husbandry became more popular. 1851 saw the first land lease of the area, which was given to one Darby McGrath, who had a sheep station across the entire valley.

In the 1850s, The Gap could be accessed only through tracks. In 1866 the Enoggera Dam was built. Several schools and colleges opened over the years as there was a growth in population and more settlers began to arrive here. Overall, the Gap is an excellent place to reside.
