Between 1983 and 1985, the modern bridge joined Tuggerah Lake and Budgewoi Lake, joining Toukley just on the east side of the Lakes complex to Gorokan on the western side, substituting the old two-lane narrow bridge. History of Toukley Toukley was referenced in the 2013 Housos series "Tokyo." The Toukley Bridge, which connects Gorokan and Toukley, was initially built. In July 1985, this was rebuilt by the modern overpass. Chinese fishermen operated in the Tuggerah Lakes area, particularly at Canton Beach. Although this has not been proved, this is where its name came from. It also served as a hub for capturing and preserving fishes before shipping them to Queensland, the Goldfields, and China.
