Overview Tuncurry is a coastal town situated in the Mid North Coast region of NSW. It is 308 kilometres away from Sydney and is adjacent to its larger twin town, Forster. The Tasman Sea is located on Tuncurry’s eastern side.
As of the 2016 census, Tuncurry has a population of 6,186.
Living in Tuncurry Tuncurry and its twin town, Forster, are a popular summer holiday destination of Sydneysiders. During the cold months, a large number of holidaymakers also visit the town.
One of the popular locations in the town is Nine Mile Beach, which is a favourite surfing, swimming and fishing spot for both tourists and residents.

History of Tuncurry The first white settler in Turncurry was shipbuilder and businessman John Wright. Initially, the settlement was called “North Shore” or “North Foster. In 1891, the area was renamed Tuncurry, which means “plenty of fish”. By 1893, the area was officially proclaimed as a village.
