Overview Urunga is a suburb in the Mid North Coast region, within the Bellingen Shire. The area is north of Valla, east of Brierfield, and south of Raleigh. This coastal district is traversed by the Kalang River, splitting the expanse into northern and southern parts. The Pacific Highway, on the other hand, travels across the hinterland. Aside from the vast Tasman Sea, the eastern section is also bounded by Back Creek and Uranga Lagoon.

History of Urunga The suburb's name sprang from a Gumbaynggir term ‘Yurūnga’, which means long white sands. One of the significant developments in the area is the Urunga boardwalk, which was completed in 2007. This serves as the major fishing spot in the vicinity. Then, in 2017, the Gumbaynggirr People earned the rights and title over a section at Wenonah Head, which is located at the southeastern tip of Urunga.
