History of Watson The suburb of Watson was named after John Christian Watson, the third Prime Minister of Australia and the streets were named after Australian judges and other legal professionals. It was gazetted as a town on 7 April 1960. The television station CTC-TV (now known as the Southern Cross Nine) was located in the suburb from 1974 until June 2020, when the Watson studios were demolished, and the station relocated to Fyshwick.
