History of Werrington Werrington was the historical domain of the Gomerrigal-Tongarra Aboriginals, who sustained a hunter-gatherer lifestyle. The Europeans advanced into the area in the early 1800s. Mary King, a daughter of the then governor of Sydney, was among the first to receive a land grant in Werrington in 1806. When she and her husband built their residence in 1827, they named it Werrington, and the suburb got its name. Werrington grew around its railway station after it was connected with the Main Western Line in 1868. New South Wales premier Henry Parkes also owned land in the area. This led to the station named called Parkes Platform in 1878. However, the original name was restored in 1893.
