History of Werrington Werrington was the historical domain of the Gomerrigal-Tongarra Aboriginals, who sustained a hunter-gatherer lifestyle. The Europeans advanced into the area in the early 1800s. Mary King, a daughter of the then governor of Sydney, was among the first to receive a land grant in Werrington in 1806. This led to the station named called Parkes Platform in 1878. However, the original name was restored in 1893.
