Kempsey is located approximately 16.5 km inland from the coast of the Pacific Ocean and around 430 km north of Sydney. It lies on Macleay Valley Way, where the North Coast railway line and the Pacific Highway cross the Macleay River. Kempsey had a population of 15,309 people as surveyed in June 2018.
