Overview Wondai is a rural suburb located in the South Burnett region of Queensland, Australia. Wondai has a small population of 1973 people and is located south of the Bunya Highway. It is 241 kilometres northwest of the state capital of Brisbane.

History of Wondai The name Wondai seems to have derived from the aboriginal language of Wakawaka. It was first settled in the 1850s, and closer settlement had started in the 1900s. A school was opened on the 2nd of May 1905, and a Methodist Church was opened on the 3rd of October 1908. Several churches were built in the subsequent years to come, and in December 1912, a Baptist Church opened in Wondai. The Presentation Sisters operated the school, and due to the steady degrowth of the number of students, the St. John’s School closed at the end of 1969.
