This suburb is located 2 km from Ipswich and 41 km from Brisbane. The Bremer River defines its eastern and northern borders. Meanwhile, it shares borders with Brassall, North Ipswich, Coalfalls, Sadliers Crossing, and Ipswich.
Living in Woodend Historically, Woodend is known as a middle-class suburb that is known for its residential heritage. Today, this suburb is a charming little community filled with families with kids and a few retirees. There is no train station in the suburb, but the nearby Ipswich railway station services it. There are a few primary schools and colleges within the boundaries of this suburb, including the Ipswich Grammar School that opened in 1863.
History of Woodend The name Woodend is derived from the residence of Arthur Macalister. He is a Scottish immigrant that became the second Premier of Queensland. This area is the first coal-bearing crown land in Ipswich, which was later subdivided into smaller coal allotments. The Woodend area was cleared of bush in the 1860s as part of its development for coal lots.
