History of Acacia Ridge The name Acacia is inspired by the number of Acacia species growing. After World War II, the suburb was established for the returning servicemen and their families. Some original post-war dwellings are still standing. In 1949, Lady of Fatima Catholic Church was established on 5 acres of land, and the church was officially dedicated in 1950 with about 150 people attending. Further development started in 1967 with the establishment of Watson Road State School and Acacia Ridge State High School that was opened in 1971 but closed in 1997.
