History of Adamstown The first inhabitants of the land where current Adamstown is located are the Awabakal Aboriginal people. In 1885, Adamstown was declared a suburb, with its first council being elected in 1886. A year later, the suburb's railway station began operating as part of the Newcastle-Gosford Main North line.
Around the late 1930s, the council of Adamstown merged with neighbouring local councils to form the areas of Greater New Castle.
