It is commonly called "Alex" by the residents. In the census data of 2016, it was recorded to have 3,957 residents.

History of Alexandra Headland Potts Point was named after John Potts, William Pettigrew's overseer, who lived on the rocky headland between the Maroochy and Mooloolah rivers from 1880 to 1890. In honour of Queen Alexandra, it was renamed Alexandra Headland. In August 1915, the place became well-known when subdivided and sold as allotments along the oceanfront and Buderim Road.
