History The story of Ascot, Victoria began in 1859 when Captain John Anderson and his party of explorers found a suitable site for a township on the banks of the Loddon River. On that same day, Captain Anderson won the first race ever held at the new racecourse. The town was surveyed and developed in the late 1880s and early 1890s.The town of Ascot was originally known as Bulldog Flat until it was renamed after a racecourse in England.
