Overview Epsom, covering an area of 7.385 square kilometres, is a suburb of Greater Bendigo City in central Victoria. This suburb had a population of 4,325 people based on the 2016 census. Epsom is 7 kilometres north of the Bendigo CBD and 136 kilometres from Melbourne.

Living in Epsom Epsom is a growing community that is just a few minutes from the local amenities of the Bendigo CBD. This northern suburb of Bendigo has a sports centre and a shopping centre.

Epsom also has poultry farms, market gardens, a large Sunday market, a public hall, and a caravan park. The construction of a new railway station, Epsom Railway Station, in 2014 allows regular train services to connect this northern suburb to Bendigo. In Epsom also are the Epsom Bills Horse Tough and the Epsom Turf Club Hotel. Most of the residents of Epsom are families with kids, retirees, and country lovers.

History of Epsom Epsom most likely got its name from Epsom Downs, Surrey, England, a horse racing town because the Bendigo racecourse is just nearby. When the railway line north of Bendigo was built to separate Epsom, it was named Ascot, an English horseracing place.

Epsom, a developing outlying suburb north of Bendigo in the Midland Highway is close to the White Hills district of Bendigo. Both places were mined for gold in the 1850s. Epsom was an industrial and agricultural town until the 1950s. Pottery and the manufacture of pipes for sewerage schemes became its main industries. In 1968, the handmade Epsomware era began. Tourism soon followed.
