History of Battery Point As the name suggests, Battery Point was established after the battery of guns used during the 1818 Hobart coastal defence. Subsequently, it became a renowned area among colonial whaler ships, thriving on maritime industries for the next six decades. In the 19th century, it was decommissioned and turned into a recreational place.
