Overview Beaufort is a Victorian suburb in Australia between Ballarat and Ararat, on the Western Highway, and is 164 km west of Melbourne. It has an elevation of 387 meters above sea level and a population of 2291, as stated by the 2016 census.

History of Beaufort At the very first, the Wadawurrung Aboriginies had it under their possession and used to call it ‘Yarram-Yarram. Mr Hamilton and Kirkland brothers are considered to be some of their earlier settlers. 1852 was the year of the discovery of gold. Beaufort, Viewpoint, Yam Holes Creek, and Southern cross were the townships that supported the nearby Fiery Creek diggings during the year 1850.
It produced 450,000 ounces of gold during 1855-1856. 1858 was the year for the sale of its allotment, and it took another two years for the town to emerge as a solid pastoral, agricultural, timber district. 1864 witnesses the materialization of its courthouse.
