History Bellamack is a suburb of Palmerston. It is 26.5 km southeast of the Darwin CBD. Its local government area is the City of Palmerston. In 1873, a group of explorers from the British Royal Society was led by a man called Charles James Byers, who was a self-taught geologist.The group's original intention was to explore the tropical regions of Australia.It is presumed that they reached Bellamack in 1875. They found traces of copper and other metals in the area and reported their findings to the British government.In the next few years, many prospectors discovered copper and other minerals in the area.In 1877, a mining company called Selwyn Ltd bought one third of all the land in Bellamack and set up a township called Selwyn, which had its own post office and police station.
